Helping Bedfordshire Get Back To Work
Unemployed Due To COVID19?
Each morning I wake up, put the BBC News on and have my coffee as I get ready for work. For me, and many like me, it’s my morning ritual. Listening to the headlines though this daily routine is under threat for many of us living in the UK.
Each time I read the BBC news or listen to the radio you can’t help but hear about more and more people who are being left in difficulty as a result of the Coronavirus
Have You Been Made Unemployed?
Have you ever heard the Starfish story?
A young boy was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When he came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean. People on the beach watched him with amusement.
After he had been doing this for some time a man approached him and said, “Little boy, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”
The boy seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, he bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he looked up at the man and replied,
“Well, I made a difference for that one!”
The old man looked at the boy inquisitively and thought about what he had done and said. Inspired, he joined the little boy in throwing starfish back into the sea. Soon others joined, and all the starfish were saved.
Now, I would be silly to think that as a photographer based in Bedfordshire I could make an impact on the unemployment situation throughout the whole of the UK. However, I am hoping that like the boy in the story I can say, “Well, I made a difference for that one!”
I can’t give people a job. With things as they are I am struggling to make ends meet myself. What I can do though is use the skills that I do have to help others.
From my studio in Ridgmont, Bedfordshire I would like to offer those who have been made unemployed, and those under threat of being unemployed, a complimentary headshot photography session so that they can use it to help them get employment.
As a part of this I would also like to feature those taking the headshot photography sessions giving them opportunity to share their story so that we can, together, raise awareness of the situation and see if we can get others to join the battle against unemployment in the area.
About The Complimentary Headshot Sessions
Each of the complimentary headshot sessions will be limited to 15 minutes and will take place at my studio at Ridgmont Heritage Centre, Ridgmont, Bedfordshire.
After each session I will review the images taken and select the best one. The image will then be edited and emailed to you.
Booking is essential. Due to the current restrictions you will need to book the time and date of your session.
Remember to help others. After the session I will also email you with a questionnaire. The aim of this is that I can use this to help raise awareness of the project and help others who have been affected by unemployment during these times.
Are You Able To Help?
My aim is to keep this service free and available to everyone who is affected by unemployment during this time, however to do that I do need some help.
If you are a business, or an individual, it would be great to hear from you if you can:
Make People Aware
The big part of helping people is letting them know that help is out there. For anyone in Bedfordshire this is by far the easiest way that you can help. All you need to do is share this post on social media, on your website, in your shop window or simply just tell people about it. The best thing about is this kind of help is it doesn’t even need to cost you anything.
Offer A Venue
I would like to make this service available to everyone affected by unemployment in Bedfordshire, however, I also understand that I am restricted to working from my studio in Ridgmont.
If you are able to offer a venue to hold an event for a day that would be a great help in making this available to everyone.
Offer A Donation
As many of you can understand that doing something like this does have it’s costs (especially if I am travelling to other venues). If you are able to help with a donation of any kind that would be really appreciated.
If you feel that you would like to help please get in touch via email@example.com. It would be so encouraging to hear from you.
We Can’t help everyone…
But everyone can help someone
