Coronavirus - Who Are the Heroes? - Nominations Open
An Update On The Project
If you have just come across this project for the first time please note that this is not the beginning of the story. Click here to find out why this project began.
What I do is based on powers we all have inside us; the ability to endure; the ability to love, to carry on, to make the best of what we have — and you don’t have to be a ‘Superman’ to do it.Christopher Reeve
An Amazing Response
First of all I would like to thank all of those who have contacted me so far wanting to add faces to the heroes that are helping all of us keep going.
I have so far been told about the fantastic work that Siemens Heatlineers are doing to provide research and equipment for the hospitals all around the world. Closer to home there are the more local heroes.
Champions from around Holmer Green who are going out of their way to create scrubs and scrub bags for the local hospitals. It’s not just individuals either there is also the work carried out by Village Aid to provide help and support to those who are unable to get out to the shops or who need a friend voice to chat to.
These and more stories are coming in and I can’t wait for the first interviews to be ready for you to be able to read as well.
A hero is someone who does what must be done, and needs no other reason.CHRISTOPHER GOLDEN & NANCY HOLDER
Ooops… My Mistake
I will have to say openly now though that when I started this project to put faces to the heroes that are all around us I did make a mistake.
From the replies that I have had one thing has become apparent. It’s not the heroes that are contacting me. These champions are not doing this for their own ego or hidden agenda. Like the heroes we see in the comic books they don’t want people to know what they are doing.
Clark Kent didn’t walk around in his bright red cloak with his pants and tights on the wrong way around so that people knew he was Superman. No Clark gently hid in the background while Superman was the anonymous face that everyone saw as the heroes in the stories. It wasn’t in Clark’s nature as a true hero to shout about what he was doing.
Our heroes and champions of today are just the same. They are the ones who are quite happy in the background just quietly doing their little bit.
Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary.Gerard Way
Nominate A Hero
If a hero does not see themselves as a hero they will never come forward by themselves. If that is the case what is there that you can do?
Well you can do your part by nominating those heros in your life. The ones who have been doing whatever they can to make your life in lockdown easier and more comfortable.
Perhaps it’s the teacher who helps you with your school work via a video link or a groups of friends who do your shopping when you can’t get out. A hero doesn’t always have to be the one who saves the planet. The hero is the one who goes out of their way to give help to just one other person.
Who Is Your Hero?
If you have someone who you would like to nominate as a hero simply fill out the form below and let me know what they are doing (if you have a photo that you are able to share that would be great as this project is about making it personal and adding a face to these unsung heroes).
If you prefer you can also simply send them the following link to complete the interview.
Once the interview is complete I will then either publish their story or contact them directly if I need further information.
